We stayed in Hotel H10 Rubicon Palace for 2 weeks in the last 2 weeks of September 2017. We travelled with FirstChoice.

Check in was quick and we have been greeted with a glass of bubbly. We and our luggage got to our room 9421 on a land train.

Room 9421

It was our honeymoon and instead of standard room we received a colonial room with partial sea view. Our room was on the first floor, it was good size room with 2 beds, sofa, coffee table, dressing table (really good for makeup) and balcony with 2 chairs, table and dryer. Bathroom was very well equipped with a lot of toiletries and shower over the bath (which was quite complicated to use). We also had 2 bathrobes, slippers and scale in our bathroom. Who needs a scale during holiday? Although it was very handy at the end of the holiday to check our luggage weight. Our room was cleaned daily, towels were replaced daily and bedding was changed at least couple of times during our 2 week stay. We have seen few tiny ants in our bathroom during our stay but nothing to worry about or to report to reception. It could be because we had bathroom window open all time and there was a palm tree next to it.

Swimming pools

Hotel H10 Rubicon Palace has 5 swimming pools. Main pool has a ship with sun loungers on it’s deck. It’s a salt water pool which is slightly colder then other pools. Activities pool is just next to it. There is also a kids pool with a pirate ship and slides. And 2 more pools located on the right and left side of the hotel in more relaxed and quieter atmosphere. My favourite was salt water pool because of it’s size and surroundings and my husband really enjoyed heated pool next to it. I’ve also tested kids pool but slides are only for kids not for adults. It’s a shame that waterfall next to the salty swimming pool was turned off during our stay. I also noticed that waterfalls around other pools and hotel grounds were turned off most of the time. We spend most of the time on the ship because it’s close to both pools, bar and it has a lovely view over hotel grounds. It is nice and clean around pools and repairs are being undertaken on a daily basis to fix issues like replace missing mosaic tiles. I really enjoyed observing the guy with full snorkelling equipment fixing mosaic tiles at the bottom of salty pool.

Food and drink

During our stay at Hotel H10 Rubicon Palace we only tried main Janubio restaurant. Food was really good, always freshly cooked and prepared but it would be nice if there was a greater variety especially when it comes to desserts. Sometimes we had to wait for longer period of time to order our drinks. Also queues to food during peak time are quite long so try and avoid peak time if you can. After testing few different times we figured out that early lunch and early dinner were the best option for us.
You need to visit Mike for milkshakes and hot chocolate they were delicious. We visited Mike almost daily.
We used pool bar for soft drinks and snacks.
Piano bar is great for cocktails and any other evening drinks. We also enjoyed live music, interior design, comfy seating and THE whole atmosphere.
Bar next to evening entertainment was also ok but always busy and drinks were not as nice as upstairs, both visually and taste.

Hotel grounds

Hotel H10 Rubicon Palace and hotel grounds are really big and beautifully maintained. There is everything from flowers to palm trees. Couple of sculptures and other decorative accents too. They even have turtles, aviary, fish next to main restaurant and a lot of cats. And the best thing is that you are never far away from main pools, pool bar or you room. I did walk around the whole complex couple of times to explore every route. Promenade is also great but it would be even better if guests could access it from all gates not only from the main one in the middle of the hotel.

Reception, piano bar and main restaurant look great. Hotel is very clean and very well maintained.

Despacio Thalasso centre

As part of our honeymoon upgrade we received a free entrance to water circuit. I was quite sceptical about it but had a lot of fun there and we were very relaxed afterwards. There is something for everyone from Jacuzzi, aqua massage beds, water mist shower to Turkish bath, sauna, pools with flowers, lemons and pebbles.

Staff

Staff at Hotel H10 Rubicon Palace are always smiling, are always very friendly and helpful although always very busy. Thanks guys you made our holidays very special.

Entertainment

There was a lot of things happening during the day but I can’t comment on it because I haven’t tried any of the daily activities/entertainment. Evening entertainment was on very good level compared to hotels that we previously stayed in. A lot of circus acts, reptile show, birds of prey show, fire show and magic show which was our favorite. Bring cash with you because there is a photo opportunity at the end of reptile show and birds of prey show.
There is a lot of live music around the hotel (piano bar, near main restaurant, near pool bar) during the day and in the evenings

Excursions

During our stay at Hotel H10 Rubicon Palace we went on 2 trips with Tui/Firstchoice. “Natural wonders” (Mirador del Rio, Jameos del Aqua, Aloe Plus and Cueva de los Verdes) and “camels and volcanoes“. Camels and volcanoes is a half day trip and you spend most of your time in air conditioned and comfy coach watching Timanfaya national park with A break for a short camel ride, volcanic presentations and volcano museum. Second trip is a day trip that takes you to north of the island to see Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. We also went to aloe vera museum, valley of 1000 palms where we had lunch and to Mirador del Rio. Although both trips were quite expensive I think it was worth it. We didn’t spend ages picking people up from other hotels as it happened to us last year during one of the excursions in Tenerife. We stopped at few hotels in the same town and continued with our trip, it didn’t take more than 30 min during the first trip and 15 min during the second trip.

Hotel surroundings

There is a promenade accessible through the gate at the back of the hotel. There are 2 small beaches on the right and left from the hotel not more than 5 minutes walk. There are also much bigger man made beach 30 and 60 minutes walk from the hotel. You can also walk to the lighthouse (around 20 minutes). We also went to explore MontaƱa Roja, it’s the volcano crater in the front of the hotel. It took us around 30 minutes to get there but our hike was wort it. View was beautiful and the crater is very cool although it was very windy on the top.
